You made it! You survived the joyful season of endless shopping, wrapping, baking, cleaning…..ahhhh the holidays. Hopefully all of your holiday trappings are packed and stowed away for another year and you’re eager to start a new craft. I love these origami stars because they are a cinch to make yet they look like you bought them in a trendy boutique. Once you get the hang of making these, experiment with different paper designs, sizes and textures. They make a striking display piled in a glass bowl or hanging in a window. It’s January so get creative….leave the holiday madness behind and enjoy the feeling of using your hands to made something beautiful!
Supplies:
- Paper; each star is made with 2 squares of paper. For your first few stars, I’d recommend using 5 or 6″ squares.
- Note: thick paper stock doesn’t work well for these stars, you’ll want to use lightweight paper that folds easily.
- Glue
- Ribbon or twine for hanging
- Design option: use two different, but complimentary, paper designs for each half of the star.
Step 1
Fold paper in half in each rectangular direction.
Step 2
Fold in half in each triangular direction.
Step 3
- Cut slits on the 4 side folds, stopping just before the half way point.
- Fold the cuts to the center lines.
Step 4
Glue the folded pieces to each other, creating a 3-D triangle. Repeat for each corner.
Step 5
Repeat Steps 1 – 4 to make a second star.
Step 6
Glue the two stars together. You may need to add more glue depending on how the stars fit together.
That’s it, your easy yet beautiful star is done. But don’t stop—make a bunch!
